Transportation / Public Transit

Sometimes I am able to sit with coworkers on MARTA going into work – it's like a party! I am on my third week of driving on the same tank of gas – and I have a 2000 Odyssey minivan! The fact that Emory Healthcare provides MARTA cards for free is great! You can go 'green' while you save green.

- Deborah Tuck, Emory Crawford Long Hospital

I live in Decatur and ride both the train and two buses every day. MARTA is smarter, economically. Although my commute is a little longer, the money saved is well worth the time spent.

- Cheryl Varner, Wesley Woods Center

Riding MARTA gives me a chance to relax; I don't have the hassle of driving and it's cheaper. This is a great benefit and I hope more employees take advantage of this incentive. There are about six of us in my department who ride MARTA together, as well as co-workers from other buildings in Wesley Woods.

- Richard Jamerson, Budd Terrace

Recently, Larry Hodges jumped on the alternative transportation wagon and started taking a GRTA (Georgia Rapid Transit Authority) bus from Griffin to Atlanta every day. While his commute time has increased slightly, the mileage he puts on his car has decreased significantly.

"Each seat on the bus has its own light and some even have computer hookups so I can get work done while commuting. I've also met other Emory Healthcare employees on the bus. Everyone knows all the other riders and the bus driver; it's like a mini-family.

It's great not having to fight traffic every day. If you have the will and do some planning, you can take alternative transportation anywhere. It has been a good experience, and I plan on taking the bus as much as I can."

- Larry Hodges, Emory Healthcare

I ride MARTA to campus to minimize the wear and tear on my car. I really enjoy being able to study, read, or do other tasks on the bus. It gives me a moment of peace without the worry of dealing with traffic. Emory makes it easier to find and alternative transportation solution that will work for you by providing many choices. It is a great way to develop relationships with coworkers who also ride the bus and it helps the environment and improves air quality.

- Kassa Elliot, Emory University
